Had the Sunday roast with the local beef...cooked to perfection lovely and rare then, homemade sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel icecream washed down with gorgeous Theakstons beer shandy. The service from the girls was fantastic 10/10.

Excellent service, amazing food, but only dog friendly outside, so it's a no for us in winter.

Great pit stop! Stopped for a quick lunch whilst travelling home from the Lakes. Jacket potato with chilli came with large salad and coleslaw, really tasty homemade chilli (yes I admit I was expecting Stagg…) hubby had a cheese and chutney sandwich which came with coleslaw, crisps and salad. Although the section where we ate did not have a traditional pub feel and felt more of a cafe, it was a delightful meal, served by efficient staff, wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Country pub. Nice to have a vegetarian meal that isn’t just meat substitutes. I just want a meal with vegetables and this is what I got. Delicious butternut squash, onion and chickpea chilli. Huge portion that I so hard tried to finish. My partners meal was a burger, coleslaw, onion rings and chips. All fresh and he really enjoyed it all. Not your cheapest meal but it’s good produce, nicely cooked food and we enjoyed and thought worth the price.

Johnson family meal We went to the Shepherds at lunch time on a Sunday at the end of June. We had pre booked as there were 24 of us. When we arrived everything was ready, the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. Food was superb. An awesome Sunday lunch thanks to all the staff.

Dripping cyclists made welcome The staff couldn't have been kinder. I arrived after a puncture delay with a friend to find that the initial three of a group of soaked, cold , bedraggled cyclists on the C2C had been provided with hot drinks, the menu and towels to sit on. The sandwiches were good and we were reinvigorated (for a bit anyway!) before setting out again into the rain. Thanks to all the staff

Charming village inn We stayed one night at this charming inn. A warm greeting by staff welcomed us. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, excellent service, cosy room and wonderful breakfast. The village is pretty and the inn is right on the green. Very grateful to the landlord for shifting cars around to accommodate the parking of our extra large vehicle and trailer! This delightful establishment is highly recommended!
